Candies are needed to upgrade the CP of your Pokémon and evolve them in Pokémon GO. Each Pokémon has their own type of candy, while evolutions still use the candy of their base form. The amount of candy needed for an evolution varies from Pokémon to Pokémon. You need one or two candies and a varying amount of Stardust to level your Pokémon up.

A few of the lower tier Pokémon only need 12 candy to evolve them. Using a Lucky Egg and then evolving a lot of these Pokémon at once is a smart and easy way to level up quick.
